About the Barbados Overseas Community-Canada Inc.

Barbados Overseas Community-Canada Inc. (BOCC) was officially launched in April 1984 after several months of intense planning by a number of dedicated individuals who realized there was a void in the Barbadian Community in Toronto. Subsequently, BOCC became incorporated in 1986. In the early months after inception, the Association was subject to much criticism, which undoubtedly did not affect the progress and work of the organization. This criticism gave us the strength and courage to move forward.

Years later, we have made significant achievements. These were due mainly to the dedication and hard work by our members, and the keen support of friends. In 1992, the Youth Group was formed. The main purpose was to educate them about the Barbadian heritage. In 1995, we took over 23 youth to Barbados; a very education trip, one that made a lasting impression in the minds of all the involved young people.

BOCC has always been in the forefront as an active participant in the promotion of community events.

Our charitable donations in Canada and Barbados have been to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Herbie Fund, the Cancer Society, Sick Kids Hospital, Red Cross, Codrington College, Churches and donation of books to St. Joseph Primary School, to name a few. Recently BOCC collected and donated over 20 wheelchairs to Barbados to help the physically challenged.

BOCC continues to encourage education in your youth. In the last 5 years, we have given over 5 scholarships to deserving youth.

BOCC has been an active member of the National Council of Barbadian Associations in Canada Inc. since inception and has continued to participate in annual conferences throughout Canada and Barbados. This year’s conference will be held in Toronto from Friday, May 16-19, 2008.

Subject: Caribbean Wax Museum - Introduction

Dear Sandra Asgill

The Caribbean Wax Museum

Dear Sirs;

With the 50th Anniversary celebrations commencing in a few weeks time we believe it necessary to introduce ourselves. We are Frances Ross and Art Edwards, creators and proprietors of the Caribbean Wax Museum and in the tradition set by Madame Toussaud’s we aim for accuracy as we depict the outstanding personalities who have by their actions carved a meaningful place in history for the Caribbean and Central America..

Our Museum is open to all and the historical and cultural displays are an education that cannot be found elsewhere in the world.

We have collaborated with other stake holders to package tours with transport that we hope will be of interest to you:-

A Cheap and Cheerful Route which includes: West Coast, Cherry Tree Hill, Bathsheba, St. John's Church (bathroom stop), Gun Hill Lion, South Coast and the Caribbean Wax Museum.

Horseback and Celebrity Tour which includes time at the Nature Fun Ranch in Bruce Vale, St. Andrew with ten minutes of assisted horseback riding, travel to the Caribbean Wax Museum and return.

If it is that you can arrange for your transport to the Wax Museum we do have a group rate for entrance.

We look forward to further communications with you and to one day have you visit our unique facility

Thank you very much

Dear Representatives of Barbados,

Hello, Representatives of Barbados, I am a high-school student currently residing in Milton, Ontario. I am a huge fan of geography, history and all things to do with the world. In particular, I am enamoured by the country of Barbados, I believe it’s a country that’s incredibly rich in history, culture and tourist attractions. In fact, outside Canada, I would consider it to be my favourite country.

In addition to my love of history and geography, I am an avid collector of flags and the flag of Barbados, in my opinion, the most symbolic, the most beautifully designed and all around the greatest flag in the entire world. I don’t currently have the flag of Barbados but I would love to add it to my collection and I was wondering if your representatives would mind sending me one of your flags via mail (ideally I’d like a flag that is as big as possible but any flag will do) as well as souvenirs or items that best reflect your great nation.

My postal code is L9T8A7 and my home address is 472 Nairn Circle. I would love that you mail flags and other items to this address if you wish to mail any. You can reply to this email if there are any updates or inquiries regarding my requests. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read this email and I understand if you can not go forward with my requests. I hope I can visit your amazing country one day.

P.S I’m not familiar with mail, will this process cost me money? If so, could you not go forward with this request, my parents will get mad

Sincerely, Lionell Pereira
